BC2008 Judging & Rules Outline

Entrant Requirements:

It is the responsibility of the concourse entrant to ensure compliance with event requirements and entry qualifications.

There must be a minimum of three (3) vehicles competing in their respective classes for trophies to be given for that classification.

BCMR2.com requires concourse entrants to be registered participants of BC2007.

The Show ‘n’ Shine Window Plaque (ie. information sheet) given out during registration must be filled out and displayed on the windshield of your car. A car will not be judged if the sheet is missing, blank, or incomplete.

Participants are expected to maintain propriety in their behavior, especially with the judges and their fellow competitors. It should be remembered that judges are volunteers, contributing their time and effort for the enjoyment of all. Thank the judges - don't harass them, without judges there could not be a concourse.

Participants should refrain from discussions with the judges unless asked questions. An obtrusive participant runs the risk of penalty points and disqualification. The basic guideline is to be polite and helpful, but avoid infringing on the judges' consultation among themselves.

Entrants are responsible for insuring that the car is ready for judging. Preparation should stop once class judging commences - subject to penalty points. The entrant should then leave the entry ready for full evaluation (doors, hood, and trunk open). If judges can’t see it, they can’t judge it!

Dealer invoices, window stickers, warranties, manuals, brochures, etc. are encouraged. Signs and literature are allowed with the entry, but stanchions or barriers and raised entries are not. Any display accompanying the entry should be in good taste, but may risk point deductions if it restricts judges’ evaluations.

Judging will he held Sunday, August 12th starting promptly at 11:00am.

Winners will be announced at the Saturday Night gathering.

Judges:

Judges are volunteers who offer their time & expertise on cars in the classes they are to judge. A judge may enter a car into the concourse competition only in a class other than the one he/she is judging.

Judges are to work in teams, awarding points by consensus. This method helps to share knowledge among the judges, improving their overall evaluation and future capabilities, as well as limiting the possibility of bias. Each class Head Judge should assign a recording/tallying scorer.

Judging teams should make an initial review of the entries in order to be aware of the quantity and range of competition.

Judges should set an average time per car, and be consistent to insure fairness and completeness in their evaluation.

Points awarded should be based on an evaluation of each category as a whole; details should be viewed in context.

Judges are encouraged to consult with each other on questions of authenticity or workmanship.

Judges may question the entrant, at their option, but time should not be spent "visiting."

Judges should not pull plug wires, remove fluid caps, slam doors, hoods, trunks, etc.

Judges are encouraged to note their reasons for deductions on the judging form.

Judges should objectively evaluate the authenticity/workmanship of the car, not the personality/reputation of the owner.

The completed score sheets are to be turned over to the Director(s) for coordination and evaluation of the results.

Judges decisions are final; protests may be lodged with the event organizers.

Judges should not discuss points awarded on any car nor reveal results to any of the participants AT ANY TIME!!!

An obtrusive or disruptive participant should be politely advised by the Head Judge of his/her objectionable behavior. The need for a second warning will result in the assessment of penalty points. Continued objectionable behavior will result in disqualification.

Scoring Standards:

Judging of the Stock Categories will be based on 2/3 Authenticity and 1/3 Workmanship; while the Modified Category will be based entirely on Workmanship and Presentation.

Cars are to be measured against a common standard of excellence, not against each other.

Authenticity - (Stock - How close is your car to showroom floor condition?):

The factory original/stock car is the foundation used to establish concourse judging in this area.

Judged authenticity is an objective evaluation of the correct parts, location and size with the correct part numbers, date codes, colors and finish for the particular make and year of car.

The standard for authenticity is based on the equipment and options that were available as original equipment from the factory (though perhaps dealer-installed) for each year and model of car. Available performance and accessory items which were not factory optional equipment would be considered modifications rather than stock/original items.

Replacements for maintenance parts that routinely wear are acceptable. They should be Toyota where available, or indistinguishable from them. For example: Non adjustable aftermarket strut inserts are acceptable, authentic replacements for Toyota Struts. Adjustable inserts are not.

Parts made available by Toyota to upgrade the cars, as available in the time period, are acceptable. This includes any item produced by TRD or Tom's of Japan. Replications of Tom's body parts are not acceptable and would be considered a modification.

Reproduction and replacement parts are acceptable but should be direct replacements that match as closely as possible the fit, finish, and appearance of originals.

Exterior paint color must be a color available from Toyota, although not necessarily that car's original color. If the color of a car is changed from original, it must be done in a manner so that the only way to tell it is not the original color is to look at the Data sticker (it must be a complete repaint, to include engine compartment, both trunk interiors and the sheet metal found in the interior of the car) in order to qualify as authentic. In this case, the quality of the repaint will be used to negate the fact that it is not the original stock color.

Workmanship - (How good are the mods to your car?):

Workmanship takes into account the condition of the car (ie. The quality of craftsmanship in the modifications made or added to the car).

Defects in cleanliness and quality of fit and finish (eg. Gaps in panel joints, cracked, chipped or scratched paint or glass, etc.), are to be considered in perspective to the whole area under evaluation.

Judged workmanship is an objective evaluation of the quality of fit, finish, maintenance, and cleanliness of a car.

Farthest Driven ‘2:

The farthest Driven MR2 Category will be judged based on the actual physical distance driven.
